Jancy Balairos led the Batch 2013 Graduates of the Department of Social Work during the 85th Commencement Exercises on April 14 at Central Philippine University Parade Ground. Balairos graduated cum laude. She also got the Dona Perpetua Juanillo Ledesma Award for Most Outstanding Social Work Graduate.
The other graduates of the Department of Social Work are as follows: Cristy Aguirre, Cynthia Jimenea Akot, Mel Clyde Olid Cabular, Roussel Jane De la Cruz, Joy Decinilla, Michael Lozada, Michelle Joy Navarro, John Joseph Oliquino, Nezel Faith Sabandal, Dothel Satur, Roberto Sumooc, Jr., Mary Rose Tablazon,Ma. Berlyn Rose Tampuhan, Rose Ann Villasis.
Meanwhile, five social workers also earned their Master of Science in Science degree and became part of 1,060 graduates of the university. These are Raul Bunda, chairman of the Department of Social Work, Capiz State University; Liane Garcia, provincial social welfare and development officer of Negros Occidental; Lulu Magbanua, head of the Social Services department of West Visayas State University Medical Center; Corazon Semira, municipal social welfare and development officer of Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental; and Janet Villanueva, outreach director of Riverside College, Bacolod City.
The Commencement speaker was Engr. Alan Dale C. Gonzales, Executive Director of Full Advantage Co. Ltd, a regional advisory and project development company in the field of energy and environment in Bangkok, Thailand. Gonzales is an alumnus of the University who graduated cum laude in 1983 with B.S. Civil Engineering degree. He was also a recipient of the Most Outstanding Civil Engineering Graduate award.
The Baccalaureate Service speaker, on the other hand, was Dr. Nestor Bunda. Also a Centralian with Bachelor of Divinity, Bunda finished his Doctor of Theology degree (cum laude) from the University of Hamburg, Germany. He is presently the Manager of Pastoral Care at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas Texas.
